Phila Beauty started in a small kitchen in Johannesburg in 2021, born out of frustration. Founder Nandi Dlamini had been struggling with dry, reactive skin for years and couldn't find a product that was both gentle and effective — without a list of unrecognisable chemicals.
So she started making her own, drawing on her grandmother's recipes using shea butter, baobab oil, and rooibos — ingredients that had been used in African skincare traditions for generations. Friends started asking for jars. Then strangers. Then it became a business.
